Cultivate positive emotions throughout the day, to expand our capacity to flourish.
Human flourishing also depends upon a daily dose of Positivity; positive emotions ranging from joy, awe, inspiration and amusement, to gratitude for past and present, hope for the future, forgiveness and serenity, compassion and love for others and ourselves.
While negative emotions like anger and fear narrow our attention and lead to resistance behaviors like “fight or flight,” positive emotions broaden our awareness and expand our capacity for clear creative thinking, connecting genuinely with others, dealing with challenges, and even support a stronger immune system, physical health and vitality. It’s well worth learning about proven ways to intentionally trigger positive emotions: cultivating gratitude, optimism and mindfulness; reducing rumination, social comparison and other toxic influences that keep us down; savoring life’s joys, forgiving others, effectively coping with challenges; and opening up more to others with kindness and generosity.
